Hi there. Welcome to the one and only Vega Protein & Greens review you’ll ever need. In this comprehensive review of Vega Protein & Greens, I breakdown the nutritional profile, taste (of three flavors), and overall value/price compared to other vegan protein powders in its class.
I was fortunate to score a wholesale price on 21.7oz tub of Vanilla via a buddy who has the hook-ups (thank you, Ben.) As for other flavors in the Vega Protein and Greens line-up, I bought the single-serving packet to analyze their taste and palatability.
Vega Protein & Greens is one of the most popular vegan protein powders by Vega. As a regular consumer of Vega Sport protein and other products from Vega, I was looking forward to reviewing their “I-may-not-be-getting-enough-greens-so-better-try-this” protein powder. Or at least that what I like to call these vegan protein and greens supplements. 🙂

Nutrition Review: What Are Vega Protein & Greens Ingredients?
The first thing I noticed about Vega Protein & Greens is the amino acid profile (the building blocks of what defines a “protein”). Considering it’s product that looks to target average health-minded folks, I was surprised to see that this it’s also well suited for athletic performance. For instance, one serving comes equipped with about 4 grams of branched chain amino acids (BCAAs), which is comparable to vegan sport protein powders.
Fueling Vega Protein & Green’s powerful amino acid profile is a quality, plant-based blend composed of: pea protein, Vega Saviseed protein, hemp seed protein, sprouted whole grain brown rice protein.
For me personally, I like to see hemp seed protein powder above brown rice on the ingredients list. Hemp is quality plant-based protein that contains a high amount of amino acids. When combined with pea and rice protein powder, the aminos are more dense and diverse.
Making up the product’s “& Greens” is the “Vega Green Blend” that contains: organic alfalfa grass powder, spinach powder, broccoli powder, and organic kale powder. Unlike comparable vegan protein powders that have proprietary enzyme blends, Vega keeps it simple by infusing papaya concentrate powder, which contains naturally occurring enzymes.
Aside from an awesome amino acid profile, there’s not too much else going on in Vega Protein & Greens from a nutritional standpoint. It does have stevia leaf extract, which is very noticeable (more on that in the flavor review).
What may be of interest to some are some of the things this protein powder does not contain. That is, very low fat, just 2 grams of sugar, and surprisingly little fiber (given all those veggies.) Unfortunately, not all the ingredients in Vega Protein & Greens but organic, but it is non-GMO. Overall, it’s a simple protein powder that has comparable features as high-performance protein products, but with a plethora of added greens.
Flavor Review: Does Vega Protein & Greens Taste Good?
My smoothies typically include a basic blend of spinach, broccoli, avocado, coconut milk (the real stuff), and water, all filled to brim of my blender. As such, the 2-servings of veggies that define Vega Protein & Greens didn’t seem all that vital. I say that because I found the flavor of Vanilla, Chocolate, Berry and Tropical to be intensely sweet, almost as if the stevia is trying to mask the earthiness of the hemp seeds, greens blend, and other protein concentrates.
For some, this can be a real deal breaker. But before you bounce, I encourage you to check out other Vega protein powder reviews, as they do make a few great products that have much better flavor (some of which I use regularly.) The Natural flavor was less sweet-intensive, and actually pretty good (as I prefer more transparent tasting, unflavored vegan protein powders).
Suffice to say, Vega Protein & Greens is still a decent tasting vegan protein powder. It really just depends on what flavor you choose and how you use it. Not only does it blend well in smoothies (as well as mixing easily into oatmeal, chia seeds, milk, and other liquids,) but Vega Protein & Greens is not chalky or pasty in texture. It’s actually quite smooth and can add potent flavoring agent for a number of applications.
Vega Protein & Greens Vanilla Review
As labeled on the product, this particular flavor contains “natural french vanilla flavors.” And while the taste is certainly vanilla-forward, the level of sweetness is high. On a positive note, Vega Protein & Greens Vanilla is smooth and somewhat creamy. There’s a bit of nuttiness to it, reminiscent of cashew, brazil nut, and macadamia nut.
Vega Protein & Greens Chocolate Review
If you like chocolate-flavored vegan protein powders, then chocolate is your best choice in the Vega Protein & Greens family. Aside from the Natural flavor, chocolate was one of the more enjoyable options that does a good job at masking the greens without being incredibly sweet. It’s a bit more on the side of mocha, dark chocolate, as opposed to creamy milk chocolate. So if you like things cacao-forward (like 60+% dark chocolate), then this is right up your alley.
Vega Protein & Greens Berry Review
Not having tried many berry-flavored protein powders, I embraced this one with a virgin palate. Vega Protein & Greens Berry was a little weird tasting to me. Definitely on the side of tropical, this flavor may be good in smoothie or chia seed concoction. Maybe it was just me, but the berry flavor was borderline medicinal tasting straight-up with a milk. Personally, I would not opt for this one in the future.
Vega Protein & Greens Tropical Review
To my surprise, Vega Protein & Greens Tropical was actually pretty good. Limited to its application (fruity smoothies), it’s a unique flavor that citrus-forward with hints of orange, mango, and a bit of pineapple. This was also a foreign flavor option that I am not used to, but overall it wasn’t bad. I would do it try it again in a smoothie with frozen mango and real coconut milk, like a tropical ice cream shake.
Vega Protein & Greens Natural Review
In this particular case, last is most certainly not least. As I mentioned earlier, the Natural flavor of Vega Protein & Greens is my favorite. The stevia is minimal and the flavor is simple. As a result, I could enjoy the true flavors of the ingredients in my smooth without being dominated by added flavoring. If you like unflavored vegan protein powders that are transparent and clean, then I highly suggest Vega Protein & Greens Natural.
Flavor is always subjective to one’s palate (particular when it comes to sweetness,) but for my review of Vega Protein & Greens Vanilla, I found the stevia leaf extract to be a bit intense. It’s worth noting that I do eat a very low sugar diet, so I am a bit more sensitive to sweetness. However, I think most would agree that this one is not the best among Vega protein powder reviews on the site.

Price Review: How Much Does Vega Protein & Greens Protein Cost?
Because the price of Vega Protein & Greens can be in constant flux (especially if you buy the product on Amazon), I can not list a specific price for it here in the review. However, I can provide a value rating of how much this product (on average) costs versus comparable vegan protein and greens reviews.
With sizes ranging in small, medium, and large, you can get great value with Vegan Protein & Greens. It’s nowhere near as expensive as other premium brands (which can cost upwards $40-50 per large size tub of sophisticated protein and greens blends.) Given the fact that it’s a quality blend of non-GMO vegan protein powder and (mostly) organic sprouted greens, I think this product is well priced, earning it a 4 out of 5 ratings.

Final Words on Vega Protein & Greens Protein Powder
For me, with Vega Protein & Greens, I don’t have a reason to put half a banana into my veggie-dense fat shakes for palatability. It’s already very sweet. But if you thrive with more fruit-based vegan protein shakes (especially with pineapple, mangos, bananas, berries, etc.) then you might find this one to take things over the top. Conversely, the 2 servings of vegetables would be a nutritious addition to a mostly fruit protein shake. So it really comes down to personal preference.
Lastly, if you’re looking for the best vegan protein powder for weight loss, I would opt for something different. Even though there is only 2 grams of sugar in one scoop of this protein powder, the sweetness from the stevia can trigger the impulse to consume more than needed (or too fast to enjoy).
