Bob's Red Mill Vanilla Protein Review Nutritional Booster Vanilla and Chocolate

Bob’s Red Mill protein powder is really something out of the ordinary. Not only is it one of the few vegan protein powders without stevia, but is also has a simple ingredients list that’s both legible and desirable.

Bob’s Red Mill is an employee-owned company based in Milwaukie, Oregon and it has been around for over 40 years. While Bob’s Red Mill is mostly known for its whole grain flours, oats and cereal products, you may be surprised to know that the company’s protein powders are some of the best on the market. Why, you ask? In this Bob’s Red Mill protein powder review, we’ll explain what makes this line of products (only the plant-based products of course) so fantastic.

This review is specifically for Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder Nutritional Booster, one of the more popular options that the company produces. While this vegan protein powder is pea-based, there are other plant-based options that Bob’s Red Mill makes, such as a chia protein powder, hemp protein powder, and soy protein powder, in addition to whey and other unique combinations. While Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder Nutritional Booster might seem like a boutique line of products geared for the wealthiest and healthiest of consumers, it’s actually relatively affordable. And although it may not be ideal for elite athletes who seek a high concentration of protein and BCAAs, it’s still a very nice product that’s both delicious and nutritionally distinct. All in all, I definitely recommend giving it a try. Nutrition Review: What are the Ingredients in Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder Nutritional Booster?

Bob's Red Mill Protein Powder Nutritional Booster Review VanillaBecause many consumers are not privy to the taste (and lingering aftertaste) of stevia, Bob’s Red Mill Nutritional Booster Protein Powder is a standout product for those looking for a protein powder without stevia. Instead, it’s sweetened with monk fruit extract, which is pleasant alternative that tastes natural and well-balanced. But before we get into the taste review of Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder, let’s talk about some of the ingredients that make this product so unique.

With Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder Nutritional Booster, you get more than just your protein. You also get a solid dose of fiber, as well as both probiotics (organic inulin and bacilius coagulans) and prebiotics (fiber from chicory root). The ingredients that make up this unique blend are comprised of pea protein powder, chia seeds, and chicory root fiber. The monk fruit extract adds a nice touch of sweetness, while the natural vanilla flavor powder brings rounds-out the taste.

One serving of Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder Nutritional Booster is a two scoop powerhouse that contains 20 grams of protein, 3 grams of fat, and 3 grams of natural sugar. There’s also 19 grams of carbohydrates, of which 12 grams are fiber (9 g soluble fiber). It’s also relatively low in sodium with only 250mg per serving.

Because Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder Nutritional Booster contains pea as the primary source protein, the product is soy-free, gluten-free, grain-free and paleo. The blend also contains whole chia seeds which offer 240 mg of omega-3 fatty acids, as well as added texture. Also worth mentioning is the 35{6f6325e81006090c67b24799731aac0121cbc6cbed9a6704f5a30a9474cd8037} RDA of iron per serving, which is much higher than most products and one thing some vegans struggle to get enough of.

Flavor Review: Does Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder Taste Good?

The are two flavors of Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder Nutritional Booster: Vanilla and Chocolate. The taste of each flavor is obviously very different, but both flavors have the same desirable mix-ability and smooth consistency. In other words, the powder itself is very refined and easy absorbing, lending to smoothies that are not only creamier, but also free of grit. However, despite NOT being gritty, the protein powder blend does contain whole chia seeds. Be forewarned that these chia seeds certainly add to the texture of Bob’s Red Mill Nutritional Booster. I personally found them very inviting.

Bob's Red Mill Nutritional Booster Protein Powder taste

But the ultimate question is – does Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder taste good? As for the Nutritional Booster line, you bet it does. Both the Vanilla and Chocolate flavors are delicious tasting and well-balanced in that they have a naturally sweet flavor that’s not over-the-top. Unlike some plant-based protein powders that have an unusual aroma, the smell of Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder is very neutral and transparent (or in other words, it does not have much of a smell at all). Overall, the taste is deliciously smooth, creamy, and semi-sweet with no lingering aftertaste common in stevia-based protein powders. In fact, I have to say that Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder Nutritional Booster is one of the best tasting plant-based protein powders I’ve had.

Bob’s Red Mill Chocolate Protein Powder Review

Bob's Red Mill Chocolate Protein Powder Review

While I admittedly prefer vanilla flavored protein powders, I instantly was keen of Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder Nutritional Booster Chocolate. Maybe because it was such a novelty purchase, and something I am not used to, but I found the protein blend to be texturally smooth and velvety (aside from the texture of the chia seeds.) The flavor of this chocolate protein powder is not super sweet like a milk chocolate.

Although it’s semi-sweet and mildly reminiscent to brownie batter, Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder Chocolate resembles more of a dark chocolate with layers of complexity that dance on your palate. The key agent for its chocolatey deliciousness is cocoa. Who would of thought? In turn, you get a rich and decadent flavor profile that lends to an ideal flavoring agent to any recipe or application.

The fun part about chocolate flavor protein powders like that of Bob’s Red Mill Nutritional Booster is diversity in how they are used. Unlike vanilla flavored alternatives, chocolate protein powders are great in simple meals, like oatmeal, dessert smoothies, or by themselves with a bit of plant milk. I am sucker for “protein powder pudding” which contains nothing more than protein powder mixed with milk, and maybe a bit of peanut butter. It makes for a low calorie late-night snack that’s highly satisfying.

Bob’s Red Mill Vanilla Protein Powder Review

Bobs Red Mill Vanilla Protein Powder Review

There’s no question in mind my that Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder Nutritional Booster Vanilla ranks in my top three for best tasting protein powder reviews. What I first noticed about this flavor was its color. The protein blend, when mixed with an unflavored plant milk, renders a slightly golden hue like that of a French vanilla ice cream. And perhaps the color swayed my tasting, but I found the flavor of Bob’s Red Mill Nutritional Booster Vanilla to be very similar to that of a French vanilla ice cream.

First thing to acknowledge about this vanilla-flavored protein powder is just how creamy it is. Although it’s sprinkled with chia seeds (that all too often get stuck in your teeth), is incredibly smooth. The level of sweetness is absolutely perfect. The monk fruit extract does a fine job at layering a pleasant sweetness to the protein powder without being overbearing or lingering. The vanilla flavoring taste authentic and beany, and the overall taste of the product makes for a perfect addition to just about any recipe. It’s ideal in tropical fruit smoothies as well as decadent dessert-like combinations. I would have to imagine that it’s a great choice for baking, too.

Price Review: How Much Does Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder Nutritional Booster Cost?

In most cases of lesser popular protein brands like Bob’s Red Mill, the price can sometimes be a little steep. However, in the case of its Protein Powder Nutritional Booster (which again is a pea protein with no stevia), the product is actually fairly priced given how much protein you get in one package. But because the final price tag completely depends on the seller (especially if you buy the product on Amazon where prices will fluctuate based on seller, volume of purchase, etc), I can’t actually list a final cost of Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder. Instead, I can provide a value rating that takes into consideration the average price range of the product given its overall nutritional value, flavor profile, and volume compared to other similar plant-based protein powders.

Bob's Red Mill Protein Powder with Chia

In the marketplace of vegan protein powders, a 16 ounce package of Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder Nutritional Booster is typically priced between the high teens, low twenties range. While I paid about $19 for this product on Amazon, I have seen this product as low as $18.

The standard 16 ounce package offers 10 servings. Each serving is a hearty 20 grams of protein. While this doesn’t seem like a lot of servings, keep in mind that the package is smaller than most typical tubs of protein powder that weigh almost double. Additionally, the cost is about half as much as tub of something comparable. So when you do the math, Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder is fairly priced at about “average” on the price spectrum. And if you opt for a four-pack or larger volume purchase, it’s a great deal. In turn, Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powder Nutritional Booster product earns a 4 out of 5 on the value rating.
